I Am Possible with Alex Gibbon

My name is Alex Gibbon, I am a 13-year-old girl and my dream is to write and sing great songs and entertain people whilst doing what I love. I left home at 10 to board at a Performing Arts school as I have always known that singing and performing is all I want to do. I am really dyslexic so I struggle more than most when reading music but I won’t give up and will keep working really hard to progress.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by anyone working hard to chase their dreams, it could be someone who has great success or a person just starting out in anything they love after all everyone starts somewhere.

What are your dreams for the future?
My dreams for the future are to try and gain a development deal with people who are experts in the industry and can help me write and produce music everyone can connect with. Then go on with a record deal, release albums and tour etc. I am prepared to work my hardest so I hope one day my dreams come true.

Your Instagram talks a lot about body positivity – can you tell us a little about your experiences with body image and body confidence?
I’ve been talking about body positivity since singing at Mini Mode, an amazing kids fashion show. Since singing for them and it being shared on social media I’ve had lots of messages from young girls like me that don’t fit the normal body shape. They found it so encouraging that I was there on the runway and I want the fashion world to wake up and hope they start making clothes for children that are a bit bigger as we want to look pretty too. I hope I get the privilege of singing at another event like this and someone has an outfit that I can wear with pride. I was bullied at my last school and it caused issues in my confidence but I’m happy to say that my new school has made me see that everyone looks different and that’s ok.

Who is your role model and why?
My role models are strong, passionate woman who don’t feel the need to fit in and find success in their own way. My biggest role model is Adele as she is an amazing singer-songwriter and I also love Iskra and Ashley Graham as they are showing the world that it’s fine to look a bit different to the usual people on stage, in the media etc.

What do you think of Isossy Children clothing?
Isossy clothing is sooooo cool I especially loved the velvet dresses on the runway for Mini Mode. Also, I’ve seen a few ruffles in the new collection and what girl doesn’t love ruffles!!

What advice would you give to kids who love singing and want to develop their voice?
To anyone that loves singing my advice is sing, sing and sing some more. Don’t ever give up what you love doing and if you want to develop your voice find a good local singing teacher and have lessons as often as you can afford. I started lessons as a present for my 5th birthday I haven’t wanted to stop since.

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?
I think every child should grow up knowing that they can be anything they want to be and believe and hope dreams can come true. I believe that if I work hard, be determined and never give up (even if stuff doesn’t go to plan all the time) then my dreams can come true.

Please finish this sentence: I Am Possible because….

I am possible because… of all the amazing support and love around me. Thanks Isossy kids and the amazing Amanda and Denise for believing in me. One day I’m going to make you really really proud.
