Isossy Children loves to connect with businesses that help to make parenting so much easier for Mums and Dads and so it was great to meet Kellie Briggs who created an online portal that offers advice and guidances on services for women and children.
What inspired you to start your business?
As a woman at home with 3 very small children and a hubby
working away I found it very difficult to get reliable tradesmen to come and do
repairs around the house. Often they wouldn’t turn up, be very late, or not do
a very good job. On the other hand I knew that there were some awesome
tradesmen out there – its just that I didn’t know who they were. So I started
Women Friendly Services as a means of listing those great, reliable business
that love working with women for all women to find. It is also great for those
businesses because they are getting great, local customers who really
appreciate them.
What have been your favourite client experiences?
A woman who was doing renovations to her house emailed me
and let me know that she had used only businesses listed on www.womenfriendlyservices.com
to complete the work and that the directory made it so easy for her. Another
success story is that one of the Women Friendly Accredited businesses now has
to come off the site for a while because they have too many great, local
customers that were driven to them from my website or facebook page. From my
perspective I really love getting to know the people behind the business and
helping them build a relationship with their customers – sort of like a match
maker!
What advice would you give to someone starting up in your
industry?
Know who your target market is, what their life is like,
what they do, how they spend money, their habits, places they go, what problems
they have and how does your business help solve them. If you focus on helping
them solve a problem rather than selling to them then you will find it much
more enjoyable as a business owner and much easier to market your business.
What are your long term goals?
Business-wise to be able to help all sectors of society find
and use businesses who want them as customers and to expand internationally.
Isossy Children celebrates diversity through global clothing
for children. Why do you think diversity matters for every generation?
This is very topical for me having young children at the
moment who always ask questions about the different things they see and hear. I
love that our world is so rich with diverse cultures and nationalities and in
some cases we don’t even need to leave our own countries to experience it. I
believe the acceptance of diversity is probably one of the areas that globally
we need to work on because once there is acceptance of our differences then
diversity can be maintained, appreciated and encouraged. Imagine growing up in
a world without pressure to “fit in”, to be simply accepted as who you are.
What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up
knowing?
You are wonderful just the way you are.
