I am Possible with Kate Armstrong

Hi my name is Kate. I’m 11 and I pretty much love everything that girls my age love (music, fashion, shopping and sport.) Although one of my all-time favourite things is singing – and I was lucky enough to join Stagecoach 5 years ago, where me and my friends spend 1 morning a week singing, acting and dancing.  It’s fantastic, it’s scary, its inspiring and pushes me to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone. Over the last 2 years I have been part of a group called Focus where I have been given the opportunity to perform at amazing venues including Her Majesty’s Theatre in London at the annual UK Stagecoach Showcase.

What inspires you?

So many things inspire me, Taylor Swift is a huge talent - she is clever and original and I love listening to her music.  Mary Seacole for her determination and compassion in helping the wounded during the Crimean War and two of my best friends Annie and Thalia. Annie is an amazing piano player and listening to her play is so moving. Thalia has been doing gymnastics since she was two and is part of the Essex team and watching her perform is like watching a firework display!

What advice would you give to other kids about dealing with nerves?

Remember we all get nervous! Don’t think of what could go wrong or what people think. Focus on doing the best you can.

The ethos of Stagecoach Colchester Theatre Arts School is ‘Creative Courage for Life’ – what does this mean to you?

Anyone and everyone can learn how to have creative courage. It doesn’t matter how shy you are – once you start learning, you will have the skills forever.

Who is your role model?

It’s impossible to pick one role model, there are so many people in my life especially my family who are my role models.

Finish this sentence: I am possible because…

I can – I can try and I can fail. I want to ride the waves and learn from the downs and celebrate the ups. Nothing is gained without trying and working hard.

Why do you like Isossy Children and how does it make you feel when you wear Isossy Children clothes (if you have worn them)?

I have never worn these clothes but I have looked on the website and they look edgy and individual.

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?

Don’t confuse 'I can’t' with 'I don’t want to'. We all like and enjoy different things so do what you enjoy doing and don’t choose to do things just because your friends might be. You will achieve anything you want if you love doing it.
