Isossy Children meets Rhythm Time

In this Isossy Children profile we meet Kathy Doolan, Founder and MD of Rhythm Time, which provides award winning and fun music classes for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers.

All of their musical activities have been created to enhance the development of every child and help them to develop their confidence, creativity and co-ordination.

What inspired you to start your business?

A love of music and the belief that it can help babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers with their development.

What have been your favourite client experiences?

When a shy toddler has the confidence to come out in front of the class to repeat a short rhythmic pattern – it’s a wonderful moment! Even the mums cry sometime.

What advice would you give to someone starting up in your industry?

You must be ready to work hard. Have the belief in your product and it will happen!
What are your long term goals?

To build our franchise network to over 60 by 2016

Isossy Children celebrates diversity through global clothing for children. Why do you think diversity matters for every generation?

We are all different and we must (especially in the present climate) learn to celebrate and embrace our differences as we are all unique.

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?

Attitude is everything. Believe in yourself and respect others.

Isossy Children meets Routes to Reading and their Baby Book Club!

Isossy Children loves all things educational for kids and so when we recently discovered Routes to Reading we were so excited. Routes to Reading helps parents to instil their children with a love of reading from an early age. Read this interview to find out more and be inspired!

What inspired you to start your business?
Sandee Sond and Ruth Wadsworth jointly run the Routes to Reading programme and it was a shared a belief in the importance of reading with young children that helped start the business. Around the time that Sandee joined the company, Ruth became a first time mum to her son, Luke. In discussion with the company’s CEO (who happens to be Ruth’s dad and Luke’s Grandad), Ruth wondered when she should start reading with Luke and what books she should be introducing to him. Sandee, being very interested in child development and literacy, jumped at the opportunity to meet with Ruth and six other families Ruth had met through NCT classes to discuss capturing their children’s reading journeys.
In meeting the families, Routes to Reading was created as all seven families agreed to film themselves reading with their babies, with Routes to Reading providing the books and expert guidance. The videos were so inspiring to watch and the feedback was so positive that Sandee and Ruth wanted to share the project with the world. Others can get involved with Routes to Reading through the baby book club, a subscription service which sends out books chosen by experts and reading tips for parents.

What have been your favourite client experiences?
Definitely our launch event! At the end of June 2014, we hosted a free event in Bristol’s science centre, the At-Bristol. The event revolved around reading and rhyme sessions for parents to attend with their babies and toddlers as well as introducing people to Routes to Reading. Over 500 people attended the event and we loved meeting each and every family. Thanks to several of the publishers that feature in our Baby book club, we were able to provide over 50 families with free goodie bags which was a lovely addition to the event.

What advice would you give to someone starting up in your industry?
Get to know who else is out there and make friends. We have been so lucky to be in touch with some great contacts via Twitter and our own personal networks and we owe so many of our triumphs and successes to their help and advice.

What are your long term goals?
In terms of business, we would like to expand our age group to help families as children go through learning to read at school. We understand that helping a child to learn to read with phonics can be new territory to many parents and not all schools are able to provide parent training. Hopefully we can fill that gap and help parents find the best resources for that stage of their child’s reading journey.
As well as expanding, we hope to be able to help those parents who may need that extra bit of support with reading to their children. We recognise that families in low-income areas may need more resources and encouragement to read to their babies and toddlers regularly.

Isossy Children celebrates diversity through global clothing for children. Why do you think diversity matters for every generation?
Just like you celebrate diversity through clothing, we celebrate diversity through books. We believe that reading about a diverse range of cultures and lifestyles is vital as it allows children to recognise similarities and celebrate differences. Introducing a variety of cultures from the very beginning of a child’s life will hopefully lead them to being far more accepting of differences as they grow up.

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?
We’re big fans of Dr Seuss’ philosophy, especially ‘The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.’

Isossy Children meets Bisi Osundeko, Founder of Joy and Joe Baby Wraps

Isossy Children loves inspirational stories, particularly when it comes to products for babies and children. Joy and Joe baby wraps has a wonderfully inspirational story that starts with cuddles. Everyone deserves cuddles. Read this lovely interview with Bisi Osundeko and be inspired! We think our Isossy Babies would love these!

What inspired you to start your business? My experience with my children inspired me to start my business. I observed how cuddles and carrying helped my children to recuperate faster when they were unwell as babies after birth. During the early stages of business, some of the lovely emails I received from mothers who had used my wraps was very encouraging and I wanted to do more to positively impact families all around the world. Also, I particularly wanted to be 100% involved in bringing my children up so the model of a strict 9-5 job didn’t appeal to me, I naturally deflected to entrepreneurship after graduating from the university based on these reasons.

What have been your favourite client experiences? I’ve been very privileged to have lots of lovely experiences with my customer but one particularly one stands out. I was at one of the baby shows exhibiting my wraps and there was a chance for mothers to try our wraps on. One of the mums who tried our wrap on was apparently a new mum and she had never used our wraps before. So when she carried her baby in our wrap, she was so surprised as to how comfortable it felt that she started crying and we were initially worried as to why she was crying. She then explained to us that it was tears of joy and that since the day she brought her baby home from the hospital, she struggled to get hands free and hold her baby at the same time. She told that the difference was so clear in terms of how comfortable she felt in our wrap. We usually sell our wraps via our website so we rarely see our customers face to face, it felt so nice for us to see firsthand how mothers new to wrapping receive our products.

What advice would you give to someone starting up in your industry? My advice for anyone starting up in the babywearing industry will be that you should approach your business with a desire to help parents (customers) first and foremost before the desire to make money because only will success follow. Also, there has been an influx of counterfeit carriers recently on the market so it is very important for you to ensure that a high standard of due diligence is adhered to in order to set you apart from the others. Such standards are your insurance, laboratory testing and customer testing where you send sample of your product around for real parents to use and give you their feedback.

What are your long term goals? Our long term goals are to hopefully make our products more mainstream by entering into the high street market. We will love to have shops where our customers can come in to try our wraps before the buy. Most of the high street carriers are quiet uncomfortable for parents because of their structured construction and some parents have expressed the desire to see natural products like ours in Mothercare shops to widen the range of options available for them. Our products are not mass produced right now so the mothercare model isn’t feasible for us but we are hoping to widen our production here in the UK to cater for that in future.

Isossy Children celebrates diversity through global clothing for children. Why do you think diversity matters for every generation?
Today’s world around us is dynamic mix of different cultures, ages, races, lifestyles, genders and more. Diversity matters for every generation because it is about how receptive people are to new ideas whilst acknowledging similarities and differences which subsequently enables people to unlock their potential so they achieve their aspirations

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?

I think every child should grow up knowing that they are capable of achieving whatever they set their minds to do. Also that whatever they are very passionate about as they grow up could be a calling rather than something random. Talents can be anything even outside academics. So even if a child doesn’t fit the mould of a bright child, there will be something this child is particularly passionate about. Those strengths in a child should be well nurtured to ensure that that child achieve his/her potentials in life.

Isossy Children learns a new language with Bambini Lingo

We recently discovered the amazing Bambini Lingo, a business which teaches babies to learn foreign languages. What could be more global than that for a wearer of an Isossy Children piece. In this interview we meet founder, Emma Magliocchetti.
What inspired you to start your business?
I accidentally discovered that babies are naturally wired to learn languages between the age of 0-4. We had an Italian nanny & I saw my 6 month old understanding both English & Italian, some extensive research later I realised that there were not any accessible language classes in our area for babies so young.
I think we have a fantastic opportunity to make a huge difference to their future, by tapping into their natural potential when the little brains are so perfectly primed to learn languages.

What have been your favourite client experiences?
The excitement I get from parents who have been looking for something like this to come along in their area & can’t wait to get their little ones involved.
Hearing how thrilled my clients are when their little one is conversing in a foreign language whilst on holiday!

What advice would you give to someone starting up in your industry?

  • If you are starting up in this or any other industry, make sure you tap into the amazing free marketing exposure that social media can offer you.
  • Keep your start up costs to a minimum; modern technology has made it so easy to set up a new company for under £50!

Babies learning a new language! How ADORABLE!
What are your long term goals?
I would like our bambini lingo programme to be offered in Nurseries & kindergartens right across the country, so as many children as possible are being given this precious gift.

Isossy Children celebrates diversity through global clothing for children. Why do you think diversity matters for every generation?
The world is becoming a smaller place every day, the older generation need to embrace this & the younger generation should be taught & shown as much as possible about their fellow countries & their cultures.

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?
Follow your dreams, don’t be a sheep, become a leader & others will follow - choose to do things the way you really want & don’t be put off by everyone else’s opinions, listen of course, but then make your own mind up.
