Isossy Children meets Renee Jain, The founder of GoStrengths!

Here at Isossy Children we love anything that educates and inspires the children who wear our clothes so we were super excited to meet Renee Jain the founder of GoStrengths.com who has created an amazing business service for young people to tap into and learn from!

What inspired you to start your business?
I run an organization called GoStrengths! dedicated to teaching kids skills of resilience and happiness using animated-story and science. Many of the stories within my programs are based on the challenges I faced while growing up.  You see, I was raised by loving and supportive parents and had a pretty decent life, but I never learned to cope with adversity -not properly, at least. When I hit middle school, I was faced with the trials and tribulations of being a young adult: peer pressure, grade pressure, parental pressure and I just couldn’t deal. This may seem like the ordinary ups and downs of tweendom, but it was the beginning of a very bad pattern for me. Everyone faces challenges in life, but every time I faced a new one, it would take me longer and longer to recover until the negativity finally got the better of me and I fell into a full blown state of depression in my early twenties.
I, fortunately, began to research the science of resilience and found there are very practical pathways to cultivating mental strength. In fact, being resilient is a skill. And beyond just surviving, there are ways to thrive. There are skills we can learn to increase our engagement, fulfilment, and purpose in life—skills to increase our happiness.  Once I learned how to bounce back from adversity, I decided these invaluable tools needed to be passed on to our youth. This was the inspiration for starting GoStrengths!

What have been your favourite client experiences?
Each and every time I work with a child to help discover their character strengths, I have a memorable experience. I generally start by giving kids the VIA youth survey which helps them identify their signature strengths. I was recently touched by the words of an 8-year old who after taking the survey said, “I never knew I was good at ANYTHING!”

What advice would you give to someone starting up in your industry?
I work in the wellness industry and I work mostly with children; I use research-based techniques to help my clients. I would recommend to anyone working in this space (either with adults or kids) to inspect new studies, research, and interventions with a discerning eye. This is a burgeoning field and there are no one-size fit all solutions for clients, so be open and flexible in what you offer.

What are your long term goals?
This sounds lofty, but my long-term goal is to help eradicate childhood depression. Social and emotional learning programs (such as GoStrengths! and many others) are prevention programs. It is my belief we can prevent a large portion if not all of the epidemic of childhood depression. We cannot help our children sidestep adversity, however, we can inoculate them with coping skills to help overcome and grow from challenges.

Isossy Children celebrates diversity through global clothing for children. Why do you think diversity matters for every generation?
Immersing our children in diversity of background, language, customs, rituals, culture etc. is one of the best things we can do to both open their eyes to the world that exists and help cultivate critical thinking skills. Diversity helps children avoid “group think” mentalities and truly assists in solidifying their own value set.

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?
You are not alone. There are some simple skills you can learn to cope with your challenges and to even go far beyond to live a fulfilling, engaging, and happy life.

Isossy Children meets Kellie Briggs founder of Children Friendly Services

Isossy Children loves to connect with businesses that help to make parenting so much easier for Mums and Dads and so it was great to meet Kellie Briggs who created an online portal that offers advice and guidances on services for women and children.

What inspired you to start your business?
As a woman at home with 3 very small children and a hubby working away I found it very difficult to get reliable tradesmen to come and do repairs around the house. Often they wouldn’t turn up, be very late, or not do a very good job. On the other hand I knew that there were some awesome tradesmen out there – its just that I didn’t know who they were. So I started Women Friendly Services as a means of listing those great, reliable business that love working with women for all women to find. It is also great for those businesses because they are getting great, local customers who really appreciate them.

What have been your favourite client experiences?
A woman who was doing renovations to her house emailed me and let me know that she had used only businesses listed on www.womenfriendlyservices.com to complete the work and that the directory made it so easy for her. Another success story is that one of the Women Friendly Accredited businesses now has to come off the site for a while because they have too many great, local customers that were driven to them from my website or facebook page. From my perspective I really love getting to know the people behind the business and helping them build a relationship with their customers – sort of like a match maker!

What advice would you give to someone starting up in your industry?
Know who your target market is, what their life is like, what they do, how they spend money, their habits, places they go, what problems they have and how does your business help solve them. If you focus on helping them solve a problem rather than selling to them then you will find it much more enjoyable as a business owner and much easier to market your business.

What are your long term goals?
Business-wise to be able to help all sectors of society find and use businesses who want them as customers and to expand internationally.

Isossy Children celebrates diversity through global clothing for children. Why do you think diversity matters for every generation?
This is very topical for me having young children at the moment who always ask questions about the different things they see and hear. I love that our world is so rich with diverse cultures and nationalities and in some cases we don’t even need to leave our own countries to experience it. I believe the acceptance of diversity is probably one of the areas that globally we need to work on because once there is acceptance of our differences then diversity can be maintained, appreciated and encouraged. Imagine growing up in a world without pressure to “fit in”, to be simply accepted as who you are.

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?
You are wonderful just the way you are.

Isossy Children meets Claire Mitchell, Founder & Inventor of Chillipeeps

We love new ideas and inventions that help parents be the best that they can be and that keep children happy too! So when we had the chance to interview Claire Mitchell, the inventor of the multi-award winning chillipeeps we were very excited. Chillipeeps solves a common problem many people experience when out and about with young hungry babies and no clean sterilised bottle to use, by allowing a teat or spout to be attached directly to a carton to feed your baby and many mineral water bottles to enable you to rehydrate your baby. Read about Claire's journey and be inspired!

What inspired you to start your business? A EUREKA moment, we were late setting off to a family party with our baby daughter. As we had just set off driving I asked my husband if he’d picked up the clean sterilised bottle, as I knew I had ready-made formula cartons in the car. He said ‘Oh you will have done’ So I asked him to check because I couldn’t remember. As he rummaged over the back seat in the baby bag, I ranted ‘Why hasn’t anyone invented anything that directly attaches to the carton?’ We had the bottle and carried on to the party. Six hours later we got in the car to go and I said ‘I can’t stop thinking about it’, the husband said ‘What?’, typical man he’d already forgotten. ‘Why hasn’t anyone invented anything that can directly attach to the carton?’

What have been your favourite client experiences?

Everyday Mums and Dads loving the Chillipeeps Teats, people calling them Genius!

What advice would you give to someone starting up in your industry?

Be aware of the start-up and development costs upfront. Ensure you understand what standards your products have to adhere to at the beginning, this will save you money in the long term.

What are your long term goals?

To make Chillipeeps a truly global brand and to make a difference by a version for humanitarian aid,

Isossy Children celebrates diversity through global clothing for children. Why do you think diversity matters for every generation?

Diversity breaks down the barriers to creating a greater world. Together we can build brilliance!

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?

Be everyone’s friend.

Brush your teeth you only have one adult set.

Dream and believe, for those that do achieve and their dreams really can come true.

You can be whatever you want, you just have to go out and get it, the world is there to explore and enjoy.

Throughout your life remember being 5, laugh until your sides split, smile until your cheeks hurt and skip everywhere singing as you go.

Isossy Children meets Sally Hall, the Co-Founder of DorothyandThedore.com

Isossy Children loves discovering useful resources for the parents who buy our clothes for their children, so we were super excited to meet Sally Hall and learn about her e-commerce site DorothyandTheodore.com. Read this great interview to find out about her business journey and be inspired!
What inspired you to start your business?
As parents, we have spent considerable amounts of time trawling the internet to find products that meet both our needs as parents and the desires of our children without us having to wholly compromise on our own sense of personal style, along with time wasted searching fruitlessly for that perfect, really special gift.   Recognising this gap in the market led us to the solution that is dorothyandtheodore.com, a multi-vendor e-commerce site where customers can purchase a wide range of beautiful products from a number of different sellers and only have to checkout once.

What have been your favourite client experiences?
We are really passionate about what we stand for as a brand and are fortunate to work with some amazing sellers who create beautiful things.  One of the gifts we have is a handmade traditional rag doll whose hair colour and style, eye and skin colour can all be made to match their owners.  We have had some wonderful feedback from customers who have bought this and other unique gifts for their loved ones, and it always creates a huge sense of satisfaction that we are able to share these truly special products with others.

What advice would you give to someone starting up in your industry?
Both the baby and the e-commerce industries are highly competitive.  It takes huge amounts of hard work and time to make a mark in this industry, but if you are passionate about what you do and really believe in your brand, it is absolutely worth the effort.

What are your long term goals?
We hope that www.dorothyandtheodore.com will become the one stop shopping solution for parents who, like us, think that practical can be beautiful and that gifts should be as unique as they are.

Isossy Children celebrates diversity through global clothing for children. Why do you think diversity matters for every generation?
Our children are our future.  Their diversity in terms of their backgrounds, colour, race, creed, beliefs, religions and all round individual personalities is what makes the world a wonderful place to live.  We can learn so much from our grandparents, parents and peers but, at Dorothy & Theodore, we believe that we learn the most form our children.

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?
Believe in yourself.  Stand up for your morals, your goals, your beliefs and never be someone you are not.
