Isossy Children meets Lorrie Brook, the founder of Our Children Australia

Isossy Children understands the importance of family dynamics and how changes in those dynamics can have an impact on children. In this profile we meet Lorrie Brook, the founder of Our Children Australia who offers a crucial service to families who are going through divorce.

Lorrie Brook
What inspired you to start your business?
I started my career as a Family Lawyer, doing my best to help as many children as possible.  What I learnt through this was that by the time parents came to see me a lot of damage had already been done. Children were already embroiled in disputes and were the ‘messenger’ and pawn in their parent’s conflict.  To me this wasn’t good enough, these children deserved so much more and so I set out to try and come up with a solution.  From this came Our Children Australia.

What have been your favourite client experiences?
I love seeing parents’ focus on their children and what is in their best interests; it is magical when they can do this from an objective and unemotional viewpoint. I have had parents who have been able to put their needs and desires to the side and have come up with arrangements whereby they are the people who move each time, leaving the children to stay in the family home and they come and go as agreed.
I love receiving feedback from parents who use www.ourchildren.com.au letting me know that their relationship with the other parent has improved because of the site.

What advice would you give to someone starting up in your industry?
Marketing is the key - Know what you want and don’t be afraid to go and get it.

What are your long term goals?
I would love to see www.ourchildren.com.au expand to provide more services  (e.g. mediation and collaborative law practices, family and individual counselling etc) to parents and children to help them resolve disputes amicably, quickly and with the least impact and involvement of the children.

Isossy Children celebrates diversity through global clothing for children. Why do you think diversity matters for every generation?
Every child of every generation is different.  Each child has the right to know this and be comfortable with the fact that their circumstances will be different to that of their friends.  This however, does not mean that they are any better or worse off than their friend just that what is normal for them may not be normal for their friend.  Awareness of peoples differences if what makes us unique; and the ability o accept and work with these differences is what will make us a stronger community.

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?
Everything you do is based on the choice you make.  It’s not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument or your age that is to blame.  You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period.  (Elements of life)

Isossy Children gets active with Hooping with Kids!

In this profile blog interview we meet Sarah Maccarelli Jordan, the founder of Hooping with Kids based in the USA! We love the healthy activity that Sarah's company promotes and we hope that after reading this you'll get active too!

What inspired you to start your business?I started the Hooping with Kids program because I wanted to help kids stay active and healthy while having fun. Using my dance background and hoop dance experience, the program I created is fitness disguised as fun for kids of all ages.

So far I’ve taught the program to kids at libraries, schools, camps, and private parties in Pennsylvania, New Jersey & Delaware.

What have been your favourite client experiences?
It’s tough to pick a favourite, there are so many good ones! I just love walking into a classroom and seeing kids’ faces light up, and hearing them scream with excitement about a hoop dance class.

What advice would you give to someone starting up in your industry?

Be patient, give back, and always focus on the positive.

What are your long term goals?
I recently launched a program to teach others how to implement the Hooping with Kids program into their existing activities. The program is online over at http://www.teachkidstohoop.com and has members from many different countries.
I would love to see the Hooping with Kids program be featured at schools and libraries all over the World. We’re fighting childhood obesity with fun.

Why Why do you think diversity matters to every generation?
Variety is the spice of life...sameness is kind of boring. As kids, it’s tough to stand out and be different, but as soon as I embraced my uniqueness as an adult I found success.
Maybe you’re not suited to work in a cubicle. So what. It doesn’t mean you’re a failure. It means you are different. Embrace it.

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?

My favourite quote sums it up: “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” Albert
Einstein

Isossy Children meets Ollie Owl

In this week's profile we meet the inspirational Tania Beattie, founder of Ollie Owl, an exciting pillow brand for children! We all know how important a good night's sleep is for children and adults alike and Ollie Owl is paving the way in creating a superb product for children and their parents to celebrate!
What inspired you to start your business?
My business, Ollie Owl, originated because I wanted to spend as much time as possibly with my son when he was born. But it wasn’t until my son got a bit bigger and one night while he was sleeping in my bed and stealing my pillow that I thought “what pillow am I going to buy him when he needs one?” I had always slept on a contoured pillow and knew the benefits they had on my wellbeing and especially the quality of my sleep. So I wanted my son to have the same benefits of a pillow that I had been getting.

What have been your favourite client experiences?
Hearing stories about children who have slept on one of our pillows and had better night’s sleep, headaches disappear, sleeping through the night to name a few things.  Parents are so grateful to us for giving their children the quality of sleep they need as they grow and children love the idea of their very own Ollie Owl pillow. I even hear of kids walking around the house with their pillow not wanting to let them go.

What advice would you give to someone starting up in your industry?
Have a plan, you don’t have to stick to 100% but if you don’t have a plan you tend to divert and your vision can sometimes come very blurred.

What are your long term goals?
I love the thought that all children where getting a better night’s sleep on an Ollie Owl pillow. If not all children sleeping on one of our pillows then I just love the idea that all children and parents are getting the best quality sleep they can. Because let’s face it sleep is one of the most vital roles in the wellbeing of everyone.

Isossy Children celebrates diversity through global clothing for children. Why do you think diversity matters for every generation?
Diversity matters because people matter. I like to think that we all have differences and embracing the differences in all of us is what will make future generations grow. I see the difference from my childhood to my son’s childhood. I grew up in a small country town with mainly white Australians he is growing up where he has cousin’s who are a different nationality to him, his school is an international one, he plays with children with different cultures to him and I believe he will be much the wiser for it.

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing?
Be yourself and you can achieve anything.

Isossy Children meets Night Nannies Australia

Isossy Children has travelled far and wide to find some of the world's most interesting and exciting services to feature on our blog! Night Nannies Australia is no exception, a wonderful service established by Annemarie Sansom. Read on to find out more this great business.

What inspired you to start your business?
I started Night Nannies Australia when my son who was 10mths at the time was having a lot of difficulty with his sleeping patterns. I was looking for a gentle settle technique that was successful but there was nothing except controlled crying.

What have been your favourite client experiences? I love helping my clients. I often get calls from Mums who are very sleep deprived and emotional and I help them over the phone and then I book in one of my consultants who comes out and they work together to resolve the issues. The difference before and after is amazing.

What advice would you give to someone starting up in your industry? Make sure that your heart is in it as its about caring for people and their children and being compassionate and understanding what they're going through,

What are your long term goals? We are currently expanding into mentoring and teaching up and coming sleep consultants into the field as there's currently no training offered in this area in Australia.

Isossy Children celebrates diversity through global clothing for children. Why do you think diversity matters for every generation? Its about accepting everyone as an individual, choice and freedom, being able to express yourself.

What words of wisdom do you think every child should grow up knowing? Care about the people you come in contact with and the ground you walk on.
